As New Zealand welcomed the world with the opening of the Rugby World Cup, McDonalds New Zealand welcomed their facebook fans (over twice the capacity of eden park) to participate and play in their own rugby challenge, McDonalds Flick Rugby, a digital take on the classic table top game coin rugby.

Players raced the clock as they flicked their way across the table weaving their way around McDonalds Kiwi Menu items to score a try by successfully landing the coin on the tables edge. A successful try took them through to attempt a conversion by flicking the coin between two cups of Frozen L&P.

Sounds easy – it wasn’t. Players needed to beat a randomly generated score and were penalised each time the coin left the table. Those skilful enough to win shared in free McDonalds vouchers.

McDonald’s Flick Rugby, amassed a massive 74,000 minutes of game play and added more than 10,000 new Facebook fans to McDonald’s NZ Facebook page.
